Gorillaz D-Sides: "D" is for...

D-Sides, an assortment of B-sides from "Gorillaz' multi-platinum second album Demon Days, early demos and previously unreleased tracks compiled together for the first time, has been confirmed for a November 20 U.S. release on Virgin Records.

D-Sides highlights include "Hong Kong" the lush and lovely track recorded by Gorillaz for Warchild and the surprise hit of last year's Demon Days Live show (given an exclusive refit here with added strings), the dubbed-out collaboration with The Bees, "Bill Murray," and the apocalyptic scum-pop of "We Are Happy Landfill." "Stop The Dams" is another collaboration, this time with the Sugercubes' Einar Orn, protesting against dam building in Iceland's wilderness. Demos' "People" (which later become Demon Days single "DARE") and "Don't Get Lost in Heaven" give a sneak peek into the band's creative process, while the Mandarin version of "Dirty Harry" provides insight into how Gorillaz might sound if they'd been born east of the Yangtze instead of deep in the wilds of Essex, while D-Sides' bonus CD of remixes includes reworkings by DFA, Junior Sanchez and Hot Chip.

A special edition of D-Sides will be available in a debossed glossy dual box, and will include two exclusive Jamie Hewlett prints, a collection of Gorillaz badges, stickers and a "Choose Pazuzu" patch. The track listing will be the same as the standard edition.

D-Sides follows the immensely popular G-Sides, a collection of B-Sides and rarities from the band's debut album, Gorillaz.

In addition to the album release, other news from the Gorillaz camp includes Murdoc's new foray into Facebook, on which fans can view photo albums of the virtual star, including childhood Murdoc pictures. Fans are encouraged to add the star as a friend here.

Dammit B&C are a dirty pair. If Luke Skyywalker and 2Live Crew had the luxury of producing their stuff for the internet masses back the the 80s and 90s Bangers & Cash would have been just plain "retro". Alas, they are not. The pair fill the grey area between porn, erotica, sick-bastards and genius. I don't know if I can even say "Second verse, same as the first" because the same crowd of fans just got added to and (since there really were no other followers of the style) the Luke Skyywalker/2Live Crew era get the honorary designation of "OLD school dirty bass". Really, these guys did not take bass music to a different dancefloor—they took the entire dancefloor (inspiration, mood, life...basically everything that encompassed that era/genre of music) to a different building. I want them to win an award but MTV is too "family". Sooooo it looks like the AVN awards needs to open up a new category. Personally I see that a new industry for adult entertainment is coming soon—adult music videos. This video is really really NSFW.

The Pack, who created one of the most original and infectious songs of last year with "Vans," are set to take it one step further with their debut full length album BASED BOYS. The Pack defy classification by creating the genre that they call "based music". Their influence can be felt throughout the hip hop landscape - from kids in every hood embracing skate fashions, to Swizz Beat's own twist on their signature sound with his hit "Money In The Bank".

BASED BOYS is 17 tracks of body moving rhythms produced mostly by in house production whiz - Young L. Normally when this many hot girls walk around and chat you up you end up digging through your wallet for $20 in hopes that the next two minutes are some of the best minutes you've ever had in the past $100. But alas, the select invitees of this private party came a long way to help celebrate the launch of RiceboyTV.com. The seasoned Hollywood crowd slowly mingled with the bigwigs as the night went on and it seemed that the the open bar (thank you RiceboyTV!) provided the right amount of lube. DJs Myster-E, Vise Versa (of Deux Process) & Sureshot kept the L.A. cool factor within limits—by that I mean the pop-40 songs that mothers love were left out of the mix thus preventing anyone in a wedding-type suit feeling the need to "dance like nobody was watching". Although now, in retrospect I'd loved to have seen a slacks vs. jeans battle simply because nerd comedy was about the only thing missing from this fest.
